
Whether just separate rooms or complete doll’s houses, they represented the lifestyle of the time in every single detail. Biedermeier, art nouveau or Empire, with household furniture and lots of smaller items from the same style periods; the arrival of the bathroom in the early 20th century examples, the maid’s room and the well equipped middle-class kitchens… Girls had to learn, in particular, to manage their households and to this end everything that existed in ‘normal’ size was reproduced with the greatest of accuracy in a miniature version. In the doll’s village the small inhabitants are enjoying sunny days in their gardens while a coach rattles past and the merry-go-round goes merrily round.
