In the centre of the small town of Lier, on the banks of the Inner Nete, the dolls and doll’s house museum De Kleine Wereld is to be found. A delightfully cosy museum that houses one of the finest and most varied collections in Europe of antique toys for girls.

A tour of the museum proves to be full of surprises as you pass lavishly decorated showcases and go from one amazing exhibit to another. The 19th century lifestyle of the middle class, with its love of splendour and ostentation, was reproduced in miniature form and given to the children as toys. This lifestyle is brought back to life in the form of authentic and entirely original doll’s houses, doll’s shops, doll’s kitchens, doll’s tea and dinner services and, of course, the dolls themselves in their sumptuous outfits of times gone by. The dolls and doll’s house museum is a private initiative and the result of 34 years of passionate collecting.
